I think there's a word for a type of government where every aspect in your life, including when and for what reasons you go to the doctor, are dictated to you; fascism.

But of course, just because they vote and donate liberal at at 9:1 ratio doesn't mean they ever let their personal beliefs influence their on air reporting, or so their far left defenders keep telling us.

Politicians on the other hand, if even given a free lunch by an executive when discussing trade deals is in the pocket of big business for all eternity, or so these same people say.

The funniest part, this research was done by MSNBC, by far the most left leaning of all the cable news channels.

A follow up to: Democrats vote to destroy democracy

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has put up a new video on YouTube in response to the Democrats push behind their bill to demolish a workers right to a secret ballot when deciding to unionize or not.

It's a pretty powerful piece of political campaigning made all the more effective by the fact that the only people seen and heard in the ad are the Democrats themselves.

Democrats vote to destroy democracy

How is this story (by way of Captain's Quarters) not leading off the news segments of the morning news shows?

You have blatant vote buying of politicians by a group that often uses tactics on par with organized crime; in fact the two groups have very strong historical ties. The legislation in question has no redeeming value for the electorate and it violates one of the most basic tenets of democracy.

Could it have anything to do with the fact this violation of the peoples trust is being proposed by the Democrats? I'm sure the MSM wouldn't be that obvious in their bias would they?

You'll notice that even though they report it, the New York Times does their best to make this open sign-up bill as a positive move for workers because as we all know, having to write your name on a card voting for union leadership could never possibly be used against you, union people being so loving and forgiving and all.

I'm linking this because you're not likely to see it's like again any time soon, but here is a link (h/t to HotAir) to a Democratic blog that actually makes sense.

It starts out normal enough, with an attempt at a dig at Republican Presidential hopeful (though not official) Fred Thompson, but somehow, and I'm sure to the bloggers surprise, the rational wing of the Democratic party (and yes, while mostly silenced and marginalized they do exist) manages to take control of the thread and debate the issues, and lo' and behold, they consensus seems to be Fred was right.

It's only a small thread with a hand full of comments but it's a start.

If anything this attempted attack may have pushed a few middle of the road Dems over to the Thompson camp. For a guy who hasn't even offically announced yet he seems to be doing pretty good for himself. Maybe he should just wait till the actual voting day to officially announce his candidacy. With the way things have been going by that time his popularity may be up in the high 80's.

Public Enemy #1

I'm not the biggest union fan at the best of times but if CUPE goes forward with their plans for strike action next week, you may just see the end of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

This is Canada and if yet another union is responsible for preventing the Stanley Cup playoffs from going through on schedule, their may be blood spilled in the streets.

I actually see the unions side on the issue of pay and benefits but that won't stop me joining the angry mob marching on Scotiabank Place with the tar and feathers to break the lines if they try and stop game 6 (which according to my prediction, which is still looking good, will not be needed).

Seriously, generating controversy and making an insane conspiracy mainstream on the left these days has about the same degree of difficulty as playing "peek-a-boo" or "watch the keys" with a 6 month old.

Democratic Morals

If a congressman won't give you their vote freely, just buy it.

The sad thing is Rangel sees absolutely nothing immoral or dishonest in paying out $20,000,000,000 in bribes to get his own party members to side with his viewpoint against that of their constituents. If they were truly elected on a 'get out of Iraq' policy then their votes for the time line and funding restrictions legislation would have been automatic but the truth is several of the newly elected Democrats actually ran on much more hawkish platforms.

I'm still looking for a good explanation as to how freeing 25 million people from the grips of a ruthless tyrant is an immoral cause. You hear the claim repeated for most people it's become background noise, for me it still gets me every time I hear it.

Bush Finally Shows Some Backbone

If only he was as open and direct about his other problems with the Democrats instead of trying to be everyone's friend. He doesn't need to be outright confrontational, except where it is called for, but like this case where he clearly spells out his stance and what his problems with the oppositions proposals are.

What Liberal Media?

Just a simple question to those 28% who still think there is a conservative bias to the media, please explain how the routine firing of 8 federal prosecutors becomes a newsworthy event which requires congressional hearings when:

1. They are political appointees which serve solely at the discretion of the President.


2. Several had negative performance ratings in or routinely ignored areas considered important by the new administration (voter fraud and illegal immigration for example).


3. The previous administration fired all 93 prosecutors, a truly unprecedented move, with at least one on the verge of indicting a Democratic Congressman, with nary a peep from the MSM.
   

The double standards in play here are simply amazing to watch and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

It's as bad as NBC's use of Tim Russert in covering the Scooter Libby perjury trial when he was a star witness in the case who completely changed his own story between the time he was interviewed by the FBI and testified at the trial.

Hijinx at the HuffPo

JonQuixote has a pretty good run down of the latest news about the 'Cheney should die' thread over at Huffington Post.

It's obvious from Arianna's reaction that she herself never reads her own blog. Wishing death to the President or Vice President is nothing new for most mainstream left blogs. In fact as Jon, and several other bloggers, point out one of Arianna's own bloggers has done so in an actual post, and not just in the comments section.

I'm just kind of surprised as to the reaction this has gotten from both the right and the left. Anyone the least bit familiar with left wing blogs like Kos or DU or for that matter Huffpo itself would recognize these type of dark thoughts as making up a sizable minority, if not the majority, of any discussion that centers around the current U.S. Administration. It would be like Noah floating around on the Ark and suddenly on day 12 of the flood looking up and being shocked at seeing a cloud.

But it is fun to read how every single negative comment ever written on any left wing blog is actually written by undercover right-wing spies meant to discredit 'the movement'. The proof of which is of course, the well known fact that Republicans are just that evil.

I also love the guy who on page 15 of the comments on Arianna's reply offers up that explanation because he's "surprised that no one has pointed what seems to be a clear possibility", well except for about 350 of the other 356 comments on the post, starting with comment #1.

I really hope he was being sarcastic. Sadly, I don't think those people in the thread demanding the return of the Fairness Doctrine were.

My favourite DKOS thread of the week

You can feel the outrage that "Faux News" (I wonder if any of them have actually tried to pronounce their little play on words) will be hosting yet another Democratic Debate.

Of course giving the Democratic Primary debate a national televised audience on the most watched news channel in North America is all some part of Rupert Murdoch's evil plan to keep Republicans in the White House.

There is one shining beacon of hope in the darkness, but despite his best efforts 'Talex' is having one hell of a time trying to pierce the shield of righteous indignation most of the kossacks have erected around their brains.

Not that anyone asked me...

... but I'll go on the record, again, stating Ann Coulter does not represent me.

As I've said more than once, I may agree with many of her underlying arguments but she has a way of presenting her case that often does much more harm than good. Always looking to go that extra mile when a foot would do.

I find that anytime she's on TV at some point in the conversation she bound to say something to annoy the hell out of me.

And for those Ann-can-do-no-wrong defenders out there, I understand that what she says is often taken out of context but some things just shouldn't have been said in any context (unless the context happens to be that your last name is Murphy or Pryor and this is the 80's during a live stand-up show).

And for those not sure what this is all about just check out here. I'm sure you can find something that will offend you.

The most interesting part of John Edwards hiring, then flirting with firing, then confirming he's keeping bloggers Amanda Marcotte (of Pandagon (warning: not safe for young children)) and Melissa McEwan (of Shakespeare's Sister) is not that it shows an amazing lack of common sense on the part of a Democratic Presidential contender but that it shows just how out of touch Ms. Marcotte's defender are.

Just check out Terry Moran's blog entry to see how hard their willing to work to defend her tirades and try to create a moral equivalence case to excuse Amanda's over the top rhetoric. Even though Terry is an acknowledged liberal the fact he independently came to the same conclusion as his brother, conservative blogger Rick Moran of Rightwing Nuthouse, that their hiring was not a good idea he is immediately attacked as an enemy of all things liberal.

But as expected the lefts quest fails miserably as it's generally hard to find a mainstream right wing site that even comes close to matching Pandagon in terms of outright hostility but add to that the need to find such a blogger that has been given legitimacy by being hired to run the blog of a national party leadership candidate and their search comes up far short.

Just check out what they consider examples of their found 'hate speech' from conservative blogs:

And will due respect, your brother says some pretty nasty things. Here he is wishing death upon Keith Olbermann:

Only under the kool-aid colored glasses of the far left can that be considered a death threat.

The Truth is Out There

Just don't go looking to the UN to find it.

We've all heard about the latest UN report on global warming which announces with a high degree of certainty that the latest increase in worldwide temperatures are due to human activities but as with everything else out of the UN there is more to this report than first appears. Dr. Tim Ball, guest columnist for the Ottawa Sun, details the process under which the executive summary (the actual report not having been released to the public) is written up and distributed to the world's media.

Unlike the actual report, the summary is written mainly by bureaucrats, many of which with vested interests in the outcome, with only limited input by a handful of the scientists involved in the study. Under UN rules, they are free to ignore almost any result or fact that they don't agree with and there is little the actual researchers can do about it. In fact, the process of releasing the Summary months prior to the full report is to allow for modifications to the final version of the full report to make it match with the summaries 'findings'.

This backwards approach flies in the face of all basic guidelines of research papers but in the land of the United Nations, logic always takes a back seat to politics.

There is also little true peer review for these types of UN reports. While they are reviewed by experts in several fields, the final writers are free to simply ignore any comments or questions these experts put forward. In this way the UN can make a claim that several hundred or even thousands of scientists were involved with the writing of the paper, thereby giving it more weight, while in fact limiting the actual involvement to their chosen few.

This is not to say that there might not be some truth to the findings of the IPCC report, but just that under the UN's archaic and politics heavy structure any truth that happens to make it's way into the final report is purely coincidental.
