Pronger Suspended for 1 Game

How in the world did he only get 1 game for that hit last night.

It was a blatant attempt to injure, but beyond that it was his second offense since the payoffs began!

If this was his first I would be ticked off about the 'light penalty' but it would be in keeping with the NHL's guidelines, or lack thereof, in terms of punishment, but being the second, you really have to go out of your way to make allowances to let him stay in the finals.

It's a sad statement about officiating in the NHL these playoffs that you have 2 suspensions in 2 weeks on the same guy and neither resulted in any time in the box.

P.S. I'm sure the Sharks will be surprised that they have a 1 game lead in the Stanley Cup finals. That's accuracy for you.

2 down, 4 to go!

Game 2 is in the books and it's another defeat for the Sens.

Game 1 I was giving them because of the week and a half of time off between series but game 2, they were just never really in it. With the possible exception of the last 3 minutes, this game had the sad look of a professional hockey team playing the Tim Bits, and sadly, Ottawa was not the former. If it wasn't for Ray Emery the game could have easily been 5, 6 or 7 to nothing.

Here's hoping they smarten up and get back some spirit when they return to town this weekend for game 3. The fans will stick with them but if they play a period on Saturday like period 1 or 2 tonight then there's no telling what could happen.

It's been a good weekend

First the Senators win game 5 of the Eastern Conference championships to clinch the title and earn a spot in the Stanley Cup finals and then I get a call from Bill with the news of the birth of his bouncing baby girl, Ariane Émilie.

She's pretty cute, with her mothers eyes and her fathers hair (do they make baseball hats in size 0?).

Just kidding Bill, congrats!

Right on Target

Sens take the series 4-1 with a 3-2 win over New Jersey last night.

I really wish I had put money on this series but I could only find one person who was betting on the Devils and that was mostly because his beloved Canadiens were already out, so not a lot of cash to be made there.

So now on to round 3 for only the second time in the modern Senators history. Looking at the possible opponents I'm still predicting a Sens win, just not sure if it will be 5 games or 6.

3 - 1 Senators lead the series.

My series prediction is still right on track. If I'm right Friday's game should be the final nail in the New Jersey coffin and then we're off to the next round.

Round 2, Game 1

2nd period is almost over and it's 4-3 Ottawa with New Jersey on the attack. I'll admit I'm getting a bit nervous about my prediction of a 4-1 Ottawa Series with the Devils winning Game 2 but period 3 will be a whole new hockey game.

Canada 4, Russia 2

Canada takes the World Junior title for the third year straight.

I was stuck at work with no live feed available (streaming video is blocked) but I was able to follow the action on various hockey forums and the TSN site. It was pretty quite all afternoon as a lot of people suddenly remembered 'family emergencies' that required their immediate attention some time around noon.
